5 Steps to Taking Control of Your Time

5 Steps to Taking Control of Your Time 5 Steps to Taking Control of Your Time Unfortunately most students don’t learn until college that studying the night before is not studying in advance. It is crucial that students practice organizational skills and follow an intensive planner starting as early as middle school. The planners help students prepare for and anticipate their upcoming tests, quizzes and assignments and a completed schedule will show the students the reality of time and the necessity of time management. Well-constructed planners also help to bring down a student’s anxiety level once everything is on paper and not floating around in their heads causing confusion.1. Brain dumpBefore you write-down and organize a to-do list, pull out a piece of paper and just start writing everything you need to accomplish. Don’t worry about organizing the tasks just get everything on the paper. 2. Invest in the last planner you will ever useOnce you have everything written down you must invest in a planner and the planner I recommend goes above and beyond the duties of a normal planner. The planner I recommend can be found on Amazon and is called Tools4Wisdom Planner. This planner incorporates monthly planning, goal setting, steps to achieving your goals and much more. Once you have the planner start by picking out the big dates and incorporating them into your planner.3. Set reasonable goals every week and prioritizeAfter filling in your calendar and the big picture of your schedule you can begin looking at your to-do list and choosing which ones to make a priorities and goals for the week. 4. Write down action steps for accomplishing goalsFor each goal write down exactly what steps you will take in order to accomplish that goal in your allotted time frame. This will go in the completion steps box in the lower left hand corner of the page in the picture below.5. Now get to workNow that you know what you have to do and the time frame you have to do it in, it’s time to get to work. Start with the highest priority on your to-do list or with the first step towards the completion of your goal or desired outcome for the week.

3 Life Lessons the Food Network has Taught Me

3 Life Lessons the Food Network has Taught Me FN personalities.Courtesy of: http://pixel.nymag.com/imgs/daily/grub/2012/05/11 As they say in Family Guy, it seems today, like all you seeis sex on TV. But. The Food Network defys this rule. Its the best part about cable, and it doesnt feature any crude material.  It makes viewers hungry, inspired, and slightly jealous; but it also teaches many life lessons to those craving wisdom about life. 1. Dont mess around at your job, you might be on caught on camera. Restaurant Stakeout with host Willie StegelCourtesy of: http://theashleysrealityroundup.com Cue Restaurant Stakeout and Mystery Diners! Both of these shows involve hidden cameras and the things employees do when they think their manager isnt looking. Lets put it this way, the situation never ends up too good for the employees, and sometimes it even ends up getting people fired on the spot for their bad behavior, i.e. a valet person stealing a Mercedes to do a delivery order. I know first hand from working at a nice grocery store that cameras are in every building built after the new  millennium.  The less conspicuous and sketchy activity you do at work, the better off you will be. 2. Always try to make fresh food. Iron Chef America and Chopped make us all want to bring out our inner ninja chef. But most people dont want to spend more than five minutes dealing with food, unless its prepared and ready to cook. Fresh food can get a little expensive, I understand. However, at least produce is not too extravagantly priced, (just DONT go for organic kinds, they are not worth the high price).   Pasta with onions and herbs.Courtesy of: http://www2.worldpub.net/images/saveurmag/ A tip: try herbs (parsley, oregano) or white onions on spaghetti for an extra kick of flavor that regular pasta sauce does not provide on its own. 3. Explore food and its cultures. It might be scary at first, but Guy Fiari makes a living doing so. In his show Diners, Drive-ins Dives, he travels as far away as Portland for fresh, organic food, and as close as Cincinnati  to eat hometown chili. Eating food from all over gives insight into different cultures and makes you think more creatively about what kinds of food you can make. I.e. if you have had Cincinnati chili, you might want to try and make it yourself now that you have had it somewhere else. And there you have it, kiddos. Watch the FN and not only will you learn how to cook and appreciate food, but you will learn that sometimes certain foods are worth waiting for. Enjoy your food!

Moles Chemistry Formula

Moles Chemistry FormulaMoles are always a mystery to people. They get on people's nerves and also can cause significant problems if left untreated. This is why most doctors and other medical professionals advise their patients to get mole removal surgery, but they usually suggest that people have their moles removed early in their lives.Moles that have grown into their adult forms can look like cancerous growths. If you happen to notice a mole on your face or any other body part and it's close to the skin, then it is a good idea to see a doctor about it as soon as possible. Also if the mole looks to be malignant, then you should be thinking about having it removed for your own good.Moles can be very distressing, especially if you notice one on your body when you're young. Some moles look like they could be a cancer, so it's important to find out more about them as soon as possible. There are many causes of moles, as it can be caused by genetics, too much sun exposure, hereditary and more. Getting it removed before it gets too big will also prevent any further complications, like cancer.Sometimes a mole will just appear on your body without cause. It's a common occurrence, especially if you have a family history of having them. You might not notice them, or perhaps they just pop up and disappear when you least expect it. Either way, if they are coming out and going away, you might want to see a doctor about it, as getting one removed could help cure you of this condition.Moles can be hard to take care of and sometimes it can be hard to know what to do about them. Whether they appear on your body or are simply looking for a home, it's easy to let them go. It's important to keep track of the size and color of the mole, and also when it grows. Keeping track of these things is vital when it comes to removing them because they may look fine, but the bigger the hole, the harder it will be to remove.Moles can become unsightly and cause many problems for you. There are many different types of moles, and it's hard to tell how one will react to your particular skin condition. The best advice is to keep track of the size and color of the mole, and also when it grows.Moles can make someone's life miserable, but keeping track of them and monitoring them regularly can save the situation and keep your life from becoming even worse. Getting them removed should be your first step, but also watching for them and getting them checked out on a regular basis is very important. It's very possible that you'll be able to live a better life with the removal of a mole.

Getting Started with Pottery Lessons

Getting Started with Pottery Lessons What Do You Need to Start Pottery Lessons? ChaptersConsider Your ApparelTemper Your ExpectationsWhat to Expect from Pottery ClassesLet us flash for a moment on the first day of school. It doesn’t matter if the school in question is a primary school, a secondary or if you’re starting on the path to your Bachelor of Fine Arts...Inevitably, there will be a run on school supplies, shopping for new clothes and perhaps even a little treat to make resuming studies more palatable. A nice lunch and maybe a new haircut?Would you need to make such purchases before starting lessons in the ceramic arts?Should you clutter your home with clays and pottery wheels? Maybe build a kiln in your back yard? Perhaps even make a bid for a slab roller or that extruder you found for sale on Gumtree? All of those would be good purchases if you were setting up your own ceramic studio but if you’re proposing to learn about ceramic art, you probably don’t need to go quite that far.In fact, learning how to make beautiful terracotta figurines or func tional yet decorative earthenware really does not call for you to invest a lot of money, at least at the outset.Once you get really good at creating art ceramics, then you might consider setting up an art studio! This article deals with what you might need to get started with pottery-making and we can’t wait to amaze you with how little you need to purchase before your first lesson. That being said, why don’t we just get on with it? Image by ENRIC SAGARRA from PixabayNobody has ever claimed that creating ceramic products is a tidy affair.Ceramics used in science and engineering applications do require an element of cleanliness to prevent contamination of the end product or, in the case of ceramic tile production, to prevent them becoming too brittle.Ceramic artists need not be quite so fastidious. In fact, they would be the first to tell you that theirs is a messy business that involves gooey earthen materials, water and a fair amount of grit. Going to class dressed to impress is obviously not a good idea.Suggestion #1: wear something you won’t mind getting dirty. If you are taking a ceramics class at an arts center, most likely you will be provided with an apron but there’s nothing wrong with you bringing one of your own; in fact, you might be instructed to do so.You may also be warned to wear something loose-fitting and comfo rtable... but not too loose â€" no flyaway sleeves, scarves, ties or anything that could get caught up in any of the equipment. On the flip side of that coin, you don’t want to wear anything too confining, either.Working with clay involves long periods of sitting with a pottery wheel between your knees. If your trousers are too tight to make extended sitting and leaning forward uncomfortable, you might want to reconsider your wardrobe choices. If you usually wear skirts, you should consider wearing one with enough flare to permit your knees being far apart.Suggestion #2: choose your clothing with an eye toward comfort. As for shoes, obviously, you would go with ‘sensible’. High heels would be out and, for safety reasons, it might not be acceptable to wear open-toed shoes. While an artist’s studio is not quite an industrial area, there are still industrial elements like kilns and heavy materials that, should your foot come in contact with them, might result in serious injury. In a similar vein, be cautious about jewellery. Especially in adult classes, participants are reminded that wearing rings is not a good idea: not only could a ring gouge your design but you might not ever get it clean again! You may take that idea further and leave off earrings, too, especially dangling ones and if you choose to wear a necklace, be sure that it stays tucked inside your top or doesn’t hang so low it gets mixed up in the clay you’re working. Finally: if you wear your hair long, you will most likely be instructed to tie it back, both for safety reasons and for convenience â€" you really don’t want a stray hair in your eye or mouth while your hands are full of clay!Suggestion #3: safety first! Don’t wear anything that might snag, impede or expose you to injury.Time to challenge your knowledge about ceramics history and modern uses! Even those not-so-perfect pieces have a purpose! Image by Oliver Huber from PixabayTemper Your ExpectationsLet’s suppose that you’ve decided on gifting everyone on your holiday list something made by your hand out of ceramic materials. What a thoughtful idea!Clay artists make it look so easy: a lump of clay on a potter’s wheel, a bit of water and the curving of hands; a bit of pressure â€" we don’t know how much and, voila! Stoneware is fired and ready for use.In truth, it’s not quite so easy to be that artist in residence. You have to know a bit about the ceramic materials you’re working with:Because of its toughness, common clay is usually used to make building materials â€" bricks, cement and aggregate (the base for concrete)China clay, also known as kaolin clay is used to make glossy paper (and for stomach remedies)Bentonite has many industrial uses and is also used in cat litterFuller’s Earth is also used in pet waste productsBall clay is a high-quality clay used fo r ceramics including floor tile, wall tiles and bathroom fixtures such as sinks and loos.Bear in mind that, even within these broad categories, there are infinite grades and qualities. Now delve deeper into what ceramics actually are...Most likely, you will be working with ball clay but even working with such quality material does not guarantee a good outcome of your first few tries. You will have to learn the right amount of pressure to exert and how fast to turn the wheel. You will need to know how much water you will need to use you will need to learn how to recognize that your piece is in imminent danger of collapse. You will have to keep from getting frustrated if, at first, you don’t succeed in creating the beautiful pieces you had envisioned. In fact, it would be best if you set your mind to learning one aspect of ceramic sculpture per lesson... meaning that your goal to gift everyone art pottery this Christmas is a little ambitious. However, nothing says that, if you have the t ime, money and inclination, you cannot take more than one class. For instance, you might consider looking for a workshop in wheel throwing that can help you master the basics of working clay on a pottery wheel. Or, if you’re more advanced, look for a masterclass to learn glazing. You can usually find such classes at your local art center; if you have an art institute in your city you may even check with them â€" sometimes they host open classes to address a particular skill. To learn more about pottery classes in general, you should read our companion article... Your pottery instructor will likely advise against wearing a lot of jewellery Image by PDPics from PixabayCheck for different online art courses here. What to Expect from Pottery ClassesUnless you have some extraordinary talent â€" you know instinctively how much pressure to put on the clay as it spins, how wet your hands need to be and an intuitive sculptural technique, you can expect a few setbacks and frustrations on your way to being the ceramic artist you always knew you were.Do you remember that scene from the movie, Ghost, when the vase Molly was making flopped over? It’s really not so unusual for a piece to flop, especially when you’re a beginner. That is why the best ceramic and glass teachers recommend approaching your artistic aspirations by first embracing the creative process.Focus on the materials and processes that go into making visual arts. Learn the various properties of that inorganic material you propose to work with, the various clay tools and what they’re us ed for.Realise how taxing creating clay art can be.You might be surprised to find that working with ceramic material is relaxing but physically challenging â€" from the amount of pressure you exert on the clay to maintaining a position for a long time.In fact, your instructor will most likely address your posture in the very first class.Ideally, your back would stay straight with your arms against your body and bent at the elbows to roughly 90 degrees. Any tools you might need should be close at hand. You might work on your posture at home if you’re called out on it.Once you get the basics of making pottery down in class, nothing says that you can’t practise clay sculpture at home. You might try your hand at coiling â€" an ancient technique that does not require a wheel. The wonderful thing about clay is that it is so forgiving! If you can’t quite get those vases right, you can try again... or turn it into a contemporary ceramics art piece. If you can’t quite get the grooves r ight on the bowl you’re making, you can ‘erase’ them and try again.Likewise, if your clay sculpture doesn't turn out exactly right, have another go at it.The important thing to remember is that learning how to make a beautiful piece takes time and work; so the most important thing you need to bring when you get started with pottery is patience! Now learn what supplies and equipment you should have on hand before you start your ceramic classes...

Life Coach Training

Life Coach Training What is Involved in Life Coach Training? ChaptersWhat Does a Life Coach Do?Training for Life CoachesHow to Train as a Life CoachWhy Should You Undergo Training?Life coaching is a relatively new phenomenon, but one that is catching on like wildfire among certain demographics!People who yearn for more out of their life but have no idea how to get it, seek out life coaches.People who are faced with a sudden change of life: lottery winners, empty nesters and retirees, those who have vowed to overcome severe emotional or physical trauma...Even people at the start of their careers are looking for an edge by engaging the services of a life coach Glasgow! And they’re not the only ones: these days, more and more businesses are including life coaching in employees’ benefits packages.Clearly, becoming a life coach can be lucrative: the monthly rate for such services runs anywhere between £150-1000 per client!Wouldn’t you like to jump on that bandwagon? If you think you have what it takes to become a life coach â€" passion, inspir ation, motivation and the ability to encourage others, all you need to find out is how to actually become a life coach.Let Superprof show you the way! And, s/he is not a business coach: if you are having business woes, you need a different type of coach.Lastly, s/he is not a therapist. If there are legitimate psychological issues barring you from your goals, s/he would certainly recommend you work with a clinician.Where a life coach Bristol excels is in helping you define your goals â€" be they personal or professional, and empowering you to reach them.“Nobody at work likes me!” is not a reason to seek out a life coach. However, if you’ve long felt that you are not where you belong, at work or in life, such a professional is the one you need! How do they get so good at helping people live satisfying lives?Training for Life CoachesThere is no mandated certification process or training requirement for life coaching in the UK.There: we got that out of the way! However, there are trai ning programmes that will render you a most effective life coach. And, while anyone can hang out a shingle (or advertise on social media) that they are a life coach, the savvy client will certainly want to see your International Coach Federation accreditation.Besides, it just makes good sense to undergo a training program to become a certified life coach. Here, the GROW model of coaching, where reality and options are reversed Source: Pixabay Credit: TheDigitalArtistA Bit of Background on Life Coach TrainingOne might argue that life coaching has its roots in sports coaching.Indeed, the book The Inner Game of Tennis shifted the focus of the player from technical skill needed for playing to the psychological readiness of winning.Getting rid of self-doubt and anxiety allows the player to become his/her best self: essentially, it means getting out of one’s own way and learning to trust oneself to do a good job. That same philosophy goes back even further: to what we know as a state of Ze n, from the Tang dynasty in China which, in turn, has its roots in the ancient Indian practice of meditation.Timothy Gallwey’s book was pivotal to the creation of the GROW model.GROW stands for:Goals â€" what do you want to achieve?Reality: what is the actual situation you face?Obstacles: what stands in your way of achieving your goals? Once they’ve been identified, O is also:Options: what options do you have to achieve your goals?Way forward: what actions need to be taken in order to reach your goals? This is one of the earliest and most influential models of coaching, still in use today. It is also the foundation of several other coaching models!Other impactful discoverers of effective coaching include Werner Erhard, who ran self-empowerment workshops around the time the Tennis book was published, and Thomas Leonard. He was the budget director for a company called Landmark Worldwide, formerly Landmark Education.Oftentimes people would ask him big life questions that essentially h ad nothing to do with finance, his area of expertise. He realised that financial dire straits were more of a symptom of grave underlying personal problems than a problem in itself.Armed with Mr Erhard’s teaching materials â€" which his company had bought outright, he went on to found, among other associations, the International Coach Federation, which became the main accrediting and credentialing body for coaches. The ICF now operates in 140 countries, ours included! How to Train as a Life CoachThe premier organisation that trains coaches, in the UK and elsewhere, is called the Coaches Training Institute, or CTI.Since their establishment in London in 1996, they have built a no-fail curriculum that churns out, on average, 200 coaches each year.Prospective coaches first undergo the Fundamentals module, a two-and-a-half day workshop that emphasises communications. This is not a lecture seminar; in no way are the participants passively digesting information!Everyone uses their newly-acqui red skills within the workshop, formulating pointed questions used in root cause analysis, and three levels of listening.Upon successful completion of this model, the coaching candidate earns 18.75 points towards his curriculum completion (the entire course totals 200 hours).‘Fundamentals’ serves as a prerequisite for the next modules, cumulatively called The Intermediate Series. This chain of courses must be taken in sequential order, and consist of: Fulfillment, Balance, Process and Synergy. Each title represents a 3-day workshop, wherein you would go progressively deeper into the philosophy, psychology and techniques of coaching.Once those steps are complete, you have the option of going yet farther: becoming a Certified Professional Coactive Coach. That title, along with ICF credentialing is the culmination of your 200 hours of learning â€" be it in actual workshops, virtual meetings or by consulting with clients. If you apply yourself rigorously, the whole course takes 25 weeks to complete, at a cost of around £6000.What do all that time and money get you?Nothing is quite so valuable as what you earn! Source: Pixabay Credit: Kristopher KWhy Should You Undergo Training? At this point, after ingesting that price tag and time commitment, you might be thinking:If there are no licensing requirements, why should I spend all that time and money? You would be absolutely correct, but you could not be more wrong. The essence of being a life coach is knowing you are your very best self, and still working to become better. All aggrandisement aside, how could you know how good you are now and what skills you’re missing if you don’t subject them to professional scrutiny? And, even if you do have fantastic interpersonal skills â€" your friends all say you are the best listener, why not improve on them?Contrary to popular belief, practice does not make perfect; it makes better â€" what a liberating thought that is!Think about it: one never prides about anything they didn ’t work for or earn; it is the thrill of the chase that we humans crave.Even in the American Declaration of Independence, those citizens are only guaranteed the pursuit of happiness; not happiness itself. Did their founding fathers wish to impress on future generations that the quest for achievement is its own reward? It thus stands to reason that one couldn’t revere what they have not worked for, ardently pursued, and earned through their own dedication!Besides, there is always something new to learn...Whether you establish yourself with a coaching business or start a business of your own: as someone trained in coaching techniques, your credibility is already assured. From there, you can offer your coaching services to corporations â€" remember, they are waking up to the need for life coaches, or find a niche market.Perhaps at a senior centre, counselling those aforementioned retirees, or maybe help repatriate people who have lived out of the country for a few years. It all starts with developing the right skills and attitudes that will make you, and your clients, successful.Earlier we credited only Americans with the life coaching revolution, and that wasn’t entirely accurate...You might thrill to know that it was an Englishman, Sir John Whitmore who brought life coaching to the UK, after a dynamic career as a race car driver. He found himself at odds with what to do with himself after he ran his last lap... sound familiar? His interest in sports and psychology led him to America, to study under Mr Gallwey himself. He returned to England in the late 70’s with a few fellows; initially, they coached sports but soon turned their attention to the business world, developing a coaching programme for managers. He remained active in the personal coaching business, even founding an association of personal coaches that ultimately merged with the International Coach Federation, for whom he served as a trustee until his death. Now, that’s a passion!Find relevant resou rces for life coaches here.See here how you can build up your clients as a life coach London.

An Introduction To Pencil and Crayon Drawing

An Introduction To Pencil and Crayon Drawing Learn To Draw With Graphite Pencils, Crayons And Colouring Pencils ChaptersUsing Graphite Pencils To Create Texture And DepthDrawing Lifelike Pictures With Colouring PencilsChoosing And Sticking With The Best BrandThe Benefits Of Basic Drawing MaterialsStarting To Draw With Basic MediumsMost art teachers would advise starting to draw with a basic medium, like pencils, and mastering a set of drawing techniques before even considering moving on to more specialist tools. For example, you can learn to draw incredibly detailed drawings using just a humble pencil from your pencil case (with a rubber sometimes permitted for those easy-to-make mistakes).Graphite pencils, just like their lead alternatives, can be used to create a range of markings so whether you wish to create a contemporary sketch or a traditional, true to life observation, you can achieve almost any finish by manipulating your tool. Pencils are a great way to produce rough sketches but also a tool to practice techniques in blending, and create simply tones and shades in your drawing - techn iques you can also use in charcoal drawing, but without the dust. For instance, try applying different amounts of pressure or smudging the product on the paper or even  scratching some of the pigment off at  the point of the pencil to create a powdery medium to work with.Important Questions Before You StartBefore you start sketching, you should first of all consider a number of factors:The type of drawing you want to produce,Whether or not your background will stay white (if you have started off with a white surface),The type of paper you want to use,What medium or combination of mediums will you use. These are basic questions you should be asking yourself each and every time you set out to draw, but do also allow yourself some freedom as an initial idea might evolve into something far greater.Using just a pencil, you can make a drawing look 3-dimensional. Photo credit: pedrosimoes7 on VisualHunt.comGoing back to the idea of rubbing out unintentional markings, some tutors will discour age you from altering any part of your work once you have out pencil to paper. Instead, they will encourage you to work with what you have produced and keep on striving in your technique to improve it until you are happy with the result. You can’t create a perfect image in a matter of minutes, and even professional artists get it wrong sometimes, but ideas grow and you need to be patient in trying to get what is in front of you to resemble what you want it to.Drawing Lifelike Pictures With Colouring PencilsColouring pencils, more so Crayola crayons, are often associated with toddlers or school-aged children but interestingly the tools are used by many successful illustrators. All you need to do is search for the #pencilart  or similar on Instagram in order to see some truly stunning images of artwork created with the modest medium.Furthermore, coloured pencils are a popular choice for children’s book illustrators and general immustration, along with oil pastels, mainly due to the soft appearance of their application. Designers and architects also consider wax crayons as their friend as they are so easy to use and add a touch of colour and a rough texture to any sketch or design. While it is unlikely that you will learn to draw with crayons, as they don’t offer much in the way of definition or precision, you could be asked by a tutor to create a drawing using colouring pencils. You can use colouring pencils to create colour, shape, light and dark. Photo credit: ElizabethHudy on VisualHuntA particularly good use for colouring pencils, due to their thin and detailed appearance on application, is drawing animals. Debra Kauffman is an artist who specialises in drawing strikingly realistic images of all types of animals. She is so influential in the field of colouring pencil art that she has published books with tutorials on how to draw animals.Choosing And Sticking With The Best BrandWhile it may seem odd, a 2B pencil from one art supply brand might be completel y different to another. Just think of it as being like buying clothes from different high street shops in the same size â€" they are almost never perfectly true to size! You can research the best brands of mediums online or ask someone who has experience using them, but the best way to decide which is right for you is to actually try them yourself. Get a good feel for what they are like to hold, how smooth the application is and so on. Even the tiniest elements can make a big difference in how happy you are drawing with them.If you feel comfortable using a particular brand, then you will be more confident and this will be reflected in your drawing. The Benefits Of Basic Drawing MaterialsAbove all, just like drawing in pen,  one of the biggest positives of materials such as crayons and pencils has to be the cost. Most grocery stores will stock a range of art supplies, with colouring pencils and crayons included. Some of the larger superstores may even offer a range of graphite pencils a s well as a larger selection of alternative materials. Most supermarkets will sell basic art supplies like pencils and crayons. There is therefore no need to go out to specialist art stores and buy special textured paper or card, which will ultimately keep your costs down. This is particularly useful if you are already paying for a drawing tutor or are taking part in drawing classes. With accessibility and cost at a low, these mediums are perfect for beginners or for those turning to art as a hobby or pastime.Take drawing lessons  across the UK with a personal tutor from Superprof:Drawing courses LondonDrawing courses Manchester

What is it Like to Attend Western Washington University

What is it Like to Attend Western Washington University The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well. Brianna received her bachelors degree in Spanish from Western Washington University. She is currently a tutor in Portland specializing in Spanish. See what she had to say about her experience at Western Washington University: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or rural is the campus? Did you feel safe on campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Brianna: Campus is very close to everything you need, including the downtown, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. There is a great bus system that runs through campus, downtown, and surrounding areas. I never needed a car while living at college; and in fact, biking is often more convenient and fun than a bus or car! VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Brianna:The majority of my professors and advisers werevery helpful and committed to their students education, providing extra office hours when needed and good communication. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Brianna:Personally, I was not a fan of the dorms; however, many students I talk to have loved living in them! It is a great way to meet people because there are a variety of activities weekly that cater to the interests of a diverse group of students. The dining options are alright, but not fantastic. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Brianna:The Sciences, Education, and Business programs are some of the best-represented programs. I studied Spanish, and I did feel very supported by the teachers and staff. It is a small major, so you get to know everyone in your classes fairly quickly, which makes making connections with professors and other students easy. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Brianna:I made friends primarily by participating in collegiate track. Getting involved in clubs and intramural sports is a great way for freshmen to make friends. Because of students votes, we do not have a Greek life at our school. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Brianna:The Career Center is helpful for many students; however, I did not take advantage of it, and therefore I am unfamiliar with the companies who recruit. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Brianna:There are a variety of study areas at Western Washington University. There is an ideal study spot for anyone, whether it be spacious or small and cozy. The library only gets very crowded during mid-terms and finals week. There are also many other cafes and markets on campus that are great for studying (if you dont mind a little noisier environment). VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Brianna:One of my favorite things about Western Washington University is the amazing wilderness that surrounds the campus. It is an ideal place for campers, hikers, mountain bikers, sailors, kayakers, and everyone and anyone in between! I can walk outside my apartment and onto a trail that runs through the forest and leads to a lake. If you are not a big fan of the outdoors, the downtown is also a great place to be. It is only a mile from campus and so it is very easy to grab a bite to eat during a busy day at one of the many restaurants. Students are everywhere at Western Washington University. Lots of students enjoy going to the boardwalk on the bay which connects to downtown by a beautiful, lush trail. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Brianna:The student body was a perfect size for me. There are 15,000 students that attend Western Washington University; however, it feels like much fewer. The campus itself is fairly small, so you see people you know everywhere! The class sizes were ideal for me. In my upper-division classes there were on average 20-30 students. Of course the lower-division lecture classes usually had more like 60-150 students. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Brianna:One memorable experience was in my Developmental Psychology class. My professor showed a video of an elderly choir group who sings for underrepresented populations all over the world. They sang for a group of inmates at a jail immediately after one of the choir members had passed away. It was very inspiring and emotional to see the way the choir inspired the inmates, many of whom were crying and hugging the elderly folks after the performance. I found myself as well as other students tearing up. it was a very moving experience to see two extremely different populations who would normally not interact connect in such a positive and meaningful way.
